- Committee on the Status of Women in Medicine (SWIM)
The Committee on the Status of Women in Medicine (SWIM) was founded in 1979 to address issues related to gender equality at the Yale School of Medicine. SWIM works to raise awareness of issues relevant to women who are faculty at the School of Medicine, and to advocate for women faculty with respect to these issues. SWIM meets regularly with the Dean to address issues and work together on ongoing initiatives critical to ensuring gender equity at the School of Medicine.
- Dean’s Advisory Council on LGBTQI+ Affairs
The Dean’s Advisory Council collaborates with other groups to cultivate visible supports and a vibrant, connected community of LGBTQI+ individuals and their allies at YSM. The Advisory Council helps guide the expansion of LGBTQI+ health research, and coordinates efforts to foster an inclusive, patient-centered environment in which tailored care is available for LGBTQI+ patients. Furthermore, the Advisory Council oversees initiatives that prepare our trainees to serve all of their patients with excellence, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

- Diversity, Inclusion, Community Engagement, and Equity (DICE)
DICE provides outreach to strengthen the pipeline of diverse individuals for healthcare and biomedical careers; in regard to diversity, our ultimate goal is to identify and recruit talented individuals from diverse backgrounds.

- The Minority Organization for Retention and Expansion (MORE) recognizes that diversity is a critical component of a vibrant learning environment. Fostering an environment at the Yale School of Medicine that is welcoming to all is vital to successfully recruit outstanding minority faculty members. Likewise, ensuring that minority faculty, once recruited, have the resources and mentoring needed to be successful is critical for improving retention. Thus, MORE seeks to support both the recruitment and retention of minority faculty through a variety of events and venues.

- Yale College Cultural Affairs and Centers
- The cultural centers at Yale serve as gathering places for communities of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The centers foster a sense of cultural identity, encourage student leadership, facilitate critical reflection, and stimulate informed action and social justice advocacy. They also act as social hubs and community bases for students, supplementing the social environment of the larger Yale College community. Founded in 1969, the Afro-American Cultural Center was Yale College’s first cultural center. Referred to as the House, it served as a model then for La Casa Cultural de Julia de Burgos, the Latino Cultural Center in 1977 and later the Asian American Cultural Center and the Native American Cultural Center.

Since 1997, New Haven Healthy Start (NHHS) has played a vital role in improving birth outcomes for pregnant women and mothers. Our mission is to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities in birth outcomes, and to reduce the rates of infant/maternal morbidity and mortality in Greater New Haven.
