Class of 1999: 15th Reunion

The Class of 1999 enjoyed their 15–year reunion. In addition to a welcome reception at Harkness Friday evening (where we were greeted by Eric Schonewald‒who is now the director of alumni advancement), the highlight of the weekend was our class dinner on Saturday. We celebrated at Mory's with cocktails and a fabulous dinner. We had a great turnout including:

Alicia Arbaje and her partner, Carlos Rodriguez. Alicia (who is still proudly driving the same car she purchased as a third–year medical student in 1997) is a geriatrician at Johns Hopkins University, and is pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical investigation.

Elly Falzarano Barry and her husband, Damian Barry. Elly is a pediatric oncologist who is working in clinical trials at Pfizer in Cambridge, Mass.

Alison Days and her husband, Sergio. Alison is practicing as a pediatrician in El Paso, Tex.

Deanna Chin and her husband, John Maloney. Deanna is a radiologist, focusing on breast imaging, in New Jersey.

Darlene Gabeau is a radiation oncologist in Rhode Island.

Dirk Johnson and his wife, April Adams. Dirk is a trauma surgeon at Yale–New Haven Hospital.

Yvonne Lui (who very recently had a second baby) is a radiologist at NYU, head of the neuroradiology section.

Lou Marrotti (newly engaged!) and his fiancée, Jill Vasi. Lou is a neurosurgeon in Pennsylvania.

Abhi Patel is a radiation oncologist practicing at Yale–New Haven Hospital.

Sherri Sandifer and her boyfriend, Dannie Liggans. Sherri is a pediatrician in Northwest Houston, affiliated with Texas Children's Pediatrics. We were happy to learn that Sherri is still singing and writing songs, and performs in her free time.

Deb Steinbaum and her husband Marc Young. Deb is a pediatrician practicing in New Jersey.

Jakub Svoboda is an oncologist at the University of Pennsylvania.

Obi Ugwonali and his wife, Dana, and their three beautiful children: Gabriella, Alex, and Nate. Obi is an orthopaedic surgeon in Atlanta, where he is the chair of orthopaedics at Northside Hospital. Amazingly, Obi finds time to volunteer, and has been traveling to Haiti since the 2010 earthquake.

We had a great time reminiscing about our time at Yale, catching up on the present, and sharing news about our classmates who were not able to make the reunion. It is remarkable how much we have all accomplished, and how much our lives have changed in 15 years (though we are all impressed that, collectively, we are looking pretty good despite the time that has passed). We are looking forward to our next reunion (20th!), and hope to see even more of our classmates back in New Haven.
