October 29, 2018

João P. De Aquino, MD, an Addiction Psychiatry Fellow in the Yale Department of Psychiatry, has been selected to be a 2019 Laughlin Fellow of The American College of Psychiatrists.

De Aquino will attend the next Annual Meeting of The College to be held in February 2019 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The College will pay De Aquino’s travel and lodging expenses, and conference registration fee.

Laughlin Fellows are chosen from an elite pool of applicants deemed likely to make significant contributions to the field of psychiatry. Fellows are considered based on their leadership qualities, clinical excellence, dedication to teaching, community service, and research and scholarly work. They participate in all educational and social functions during the Annual Meeting.

The College comprises more than 750 psychiatrists who have demonstrated excellence in the field of psychiatry and achieved national recognition in clinical practice, research, academic leadership, or teaching. It provides continuing education to its members, promotes the latest advances in psychiatry, and supports high standards in the field.

De Aquino is a 2018 graduate of the Yale Psychiatry Residency Program. He was a second-place co-recipient of the department’s 2018 Seymour Lustman Resident Research Award in Psychiatry. The award is presented annually to outstanding physician-scientists for excellence in research carried out during their training.
