Yale School of Medicine, Department of Surgery Welcomes Dr. Blasberg

Please join us in welcoming our newest faculty member, Justin Blasberg, MD to the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Surgery. Dr. Blasberg will join the Department as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Thoracic Surgery. He will spend 50% of his time at the West Haven Veteran’s Administration and the remaining time at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Blasberg is a general thoracic and oncologic surgeon whose practice includes minimally invasive and open management for diseases of the esophagus, lung, mediastinum, chest wall, thoracic outlet, and diaphragm. He utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, etc.) to the management of esophageal and gastroesophageal cancer, Barrett’s esophagus, lung cancer, and other malignancies of the chest. In addition, he has a particular interest in benign and malignant diseases of the trachea, including idiopathic laryngotracheal stenosis and post-intubation stenosis, as well as complex lung resections requiring bronchoplasty. He also performs first rib resection and anterior scalenectomy for all varieties of thoracic outlet syndrome.

Dr. Blasberg will concurrently matriculate to the Yale School of Public Health to obtain an Advanced Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. He plans to utilize those skills in developing a Surgical Outcomes Research Program. He has extensive translational and surgical outcomes research experience, has presented at numerous national and international meetings, and has published multiple peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters during his training and early faculty work.
