Visions of the Future was the theme, when the Yale Center for Healthcare Simulation (YCHS) participated in the Envisioning AI at Yale - An Interdisciplinary Symposium, on May 9, 2025.
YCHS took part in the event held at Yale’s Kline Tower. The Simulation team was on hand to demonstrate VR and high-fidelity manikin simulation at the research symposium. “The VR presentation was a very big hit, and it drew a lot of attention, it went very well,” stated Chris Banziruk, senior simulation technical specialist at the Center.
It was the first time participating in this type of event, and YCHS was able to showcase the VR component, as well as manikin simulation. With VR, attendees wore a headset and were able to simulate administering patient care, while onlookers could see the hologram-like avatar on the screen. They learned through the demonstrations that these enhancements allow flexibility when training health care providers.
Attendees loved the interactive ability, and the high-fidelity manikin (sim-baby) also drew a lot of attention throughout the day. They enjoyed the hands-on approach to practicing in this safe environment. The team was very busy with curious participants willing to try simulation out, most for the very first time. “Conference attendees seemed very enthusiastic. I overheard multiple people say, ‘this is so cool’," cited Leigh Evans, MD, professor of emergency medicine and executive director of YCHS.
