June 24, 2016

Organizers of the United State of Women Summit held June 14 in Washington, D.C., have released a video showing highlights of the event, which drew 5,000 people and featured President Obama and several celebrities.

Among the speakers was Megan V. Smith, DrPh, MPH, assistant professor of psychiatry, in the Child Study Center and of epidemiology at Yale, and director of the New Haven Mental Health Outreach for Mothers (MOMS) Partnership. Smith spoke about women’s mental health and poverty, and talked about her experiences with the MOMS Partnership, which seeks to transform service delivery systems for mothers and children in New Haven through community and neighborhood-based resources dedicated to wellness.

The summit was held to celebrate the accomplishments of women, and to discuss issues like gender equality, economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and violence against women.

Latifa Lyles, director of the Women's Bureau for the U.S. Department of Labor, wrote a blog about the summit.
