August 29, 2024

The Center for Medical Education’s 2024-25 Yale Medical Educator Series – YES! and Medical Education Discussion Group (MEDG) educator development series kick off next week. Highlighted below are upcoming opportunities in the month of September.

If you have not yet registered for these upcoming sessions, or any others you may want to attend, you can register here.

All sessions are from 12 - 1 p.m. via Zoom with CME credit available.

Friday, Sept. 6 – YES! “Reversing the Tyranny of PowerPoint” by Andrés Martin, MD, PhD

PowerPoint and similar tools were created to supplement and enrich presentations and lectures. However all too often the reverse is true, with presenters capitulating their own presence in the hopes that PowerPoint will do the teaching and inspiring for them. This session will focus on twelve practical ways of engaging, preparing, and delivering to reclaim the podium: you are the presentation.

Thursday, Sept. 12 – MEDG “Learning as a Guide for Teaching” by William Rando, PhD

Thanks to works like the National Science Foundation's "How People Learn," instructors can now design courses based on principles of human learning and understanding. In this session led by YSM’s director of pedagogy, we will consider several principles of learning and ask ourselves: How would I design my course differently if I were to consider these principles? How would my students' experience change?

Friday, Sept. 27 – YES! “Learning Climate” by Vincent Quagliarello, MD & Seonaid Hay, MD

At the heart of successful learning lies the teacher’s ability to establish an inviting environment that motivates students to engage. This session delves into strategies for fostering a supportive and inspiring atmosphere, valuing and involving learners, and acknowledging one’s own limitations.
