Chidinma Okani, MD, a third-year resident in the Yale Department of Psychiatry, has been selected by the American Journal of Psychiatry to work with its editorial board as part of its commitment to combat racism, social injustice, and health care inequities through the examination of the article submission and review process.
In this role, Okani will serve as a reviewer for a submission in an area of interest; write or co-write a commentary piece for publication in the journal; and work with an advisory group that synthesizes the literature on topics of interest to clinicians.
Okani was selected as part of the APA/APAF Minority Fellowship Program. In April 2021, she was chosen for the APA Diversity Leadership fellowship, which identifies and motivates minority psychiatry residents or those interested in minority and vulnerable populations who, through the experiential and training opportunities of the fellowship, will become well equipped to teach, administer, and provide culturally-competent, evidence-based mental health and substance abuse services to diverse minority groups and at-risk populations.
