Yale School of Medicine first-year MD student Brian Fleischer officially was welcomed to the profession in a special White Coat ceremony on January 19.

Fleischer could not join his class’s White Coat ceremony on August 28, 2020 in person, because he was unable to leave Ghana due to COVID restrictions there. Nancy J. Brown, MD, Jean and David W. Wallace Dean and C.N.H. Long Professor of Internal Medicine, had the idea for the January ceremony once Fleischer arrived in the U.S., after completing his first semester in Ghana.

The event was held in the dean’s office, with a large remote audience, including Fleischer’s family in Ghana, his 99 classmates, Deputy Dean for Medical Education Jessica Illuzzi, MD, MS, Associate Dean for Student Affairs Nancy Angoff, MD, MPH, MEd, and his academic advisor, Associate Professor Karen Jubanyik, MD.

His classmates created this short congratulations and welcome video for him.
