Jiva Dance, a New York City-based dance group, will come to Harkness Auditorium on Sunday, November 10, at 6:00 p.m., to perform its new production, "The Four Horsemen." It is an evening-length dance production that explores the human metaphors of the four horsemen of conquest, war, famine, and death, through the very real stories of female protagonists. Challenging the notions of Indian classical dance content and technique, these intimately relatable stories bring the never-ending cycle of despair and hope vividly to life.
Earlier that same day, at 11:00 a.m., there will be an Indian Classical Dance Workshop led by Sonali Skandan, a co-creator and co-choreographer of "The Four Horsemen."
The events are sponsored by the Yale MacMillan Center's South Asian Studies Council with participation by the Yale-based dance group Natyamandala, which will open the evening program under the leadership of Smita Krishnaswamy, PhD, assistant professor of genetics and of computer science, and an accomplished Indian Classical dancer for a quarter century.
