August 30, 2019

Swapnil Gupta, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry; John Cahill, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry; and Rebecca Miller, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry are co-authors of “Deprescribing in Psychiatry,” the first book to present considerations for prescribers on how to decrease or discontinue psychiatric medications in a systematic, holistic way.

The book, published by Oxford University Press, outlines a model for deprescribing psychotropic medications including contextual and psychosocial considerations. It includes numerous case examples and worksheets to assist in the process of deprescribing.

"Deprescribing in Psychiatry" presents a framework to guide the prescriber-patient dyad through the process of deciding if and when to reduce psychiatric medication, how to go about doing it, and at the same time, acknowledges the inherent risks in such an endeavor
