Fehon Chairs International Panel Presentation, Half-Day Conference

Dwain Fehon, PsyD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, recently chaired and moderated an international panel presentation for the International Psycho-oncology Society (IPOS) titled, “COVID’s Global Impact on Palliative Care: Creating Connections.”

The panel consisted of eight palliative care experts representing the United States, Canada, Mexico, UK, India, China, Kenya, and Australia and included a roundtable discussion that examined some of the key challenges and opportunities for palliative care patients, families, and providers in developed and developing countries around the world.

Representing the U.S. was Dr. Jennifer Kapo, Sherwin B. Nuland & Michael K. Vlock Associate Professor of Palliative Medicine and Director of Palliative Medicine, Yale Cancer Center.

Fehon also recently chaired and moderated a half-day conference titled, “Achieving Health Equity in the Treatment of Cancer-Related Pain.” This conference was jointly sponsored by three organizations: American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS), Association for Oncology Social Workers (AOSW), and the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC).

The conference highlighted correlates of disparate outcomes for underserved patients despite the advances in cancer care and provided strategies to advance health equity.
