The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vincent Mase Jr. to the position of Associate Program Director for Assessment to support the growth and integrity of its General Surgery Residency Program. In this new role, Dr. Mase will focus primarily on developing mechanisms that ensure the timely exchange of feedback among faculty and trainees across the system; in addition to maintaining compliance with regulatory bodies.
“Dr. Mase will bring tremendous value to our program. It is exciting that he comes from the Division of Thoracic, as the beginning of more multi-D collaborations among the residencies,” said General Surgery Residency Program Director, Dr. Peter Yoo.
Dr. Mase is an Assistant Professor in the Thoracic Division. He is skilled in performing minimally invasive thoracic surgery for most patients. Dr. Mase is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and has close to 20 years service time; both active duty and reserves. His military awards include a Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Combat Medical Badge.
Dr. Mase's appointment to APD of Assessment is part of a broader initiative to structure the APD position to focus on key development areas. The department recently appointed Dr. Maija Cheung as APD of Clinical Skills. A search for APD of Academic Development is underway.
"Providing our trainees and faculty with a comprehensive curriculum and support team is critical to our education mission. These roles fully complement this new strategy, as we assign and align focus areas of expertise among our educators,” said Department of Surgery Chair, Dr. Nita Ahuja.
