De Aquino Awarded New Investigator Award From ISCTM

December 18, 2022

Joao P. De Aquino, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry and assistant chief of psychiatry at the Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit (CNRU) at Yale School of Medicine, has been awarded a New Investigator Award from the International Society of CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology (ISCTM).

The award will be presented at the organization’s conference, held in Washington D.C. from February 15 to 17, 2023.

De Aquino will present research on an innovative methodology to assess the risk/benefit ratio of cannabinoids and other non-opioid analgesics among persons with opioid use disorder (OUD) — who are often tolerant to the analgesic effects of opioids and are in need of novel pain therapeutics.

ISCTM is a multi-disciplinary independent organization “devoted to promoting advances that address strategic clinical, regulatory, methodological and policy challenges that arise in the development and use of CNS therapeutic agents,” according to its website.

De Aquino's research is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and uses behavioral pharmacology, computerized psychophysics, and clinical trial approaches to develop novel therapeutics for pain and addiction.
