Clerkship Year

December 12, 2022

YSM Curriculum Update

You are quickly approaching the end of the clerkship year; only this week left. Congratulations! It is truly an accomplishment to be proud of. Hopefully, as you reflect back on your experiences during this period of your training, you will see how it has helped you become a stronger clinician and brought into better focus where you may fit best in medicine for yourself and the people you will serve. By its very nature, your experience probably engendered a broad range of emotions within you and included both positive and negative aspects. After this week, as part of transitioning into the ATP phase of the curriculum, take time to process the meaning of what you saw, felt, and did over the past twelve months. All of those moments will shape you into the kind of doctor you are meant to be.

As the clerkships wrap up, there will be a few ways in which you can give feedback to the clerkships to help us improve the experience for future classes. There are the advisory groups led by John Encandela, the end-of-course feedback forms to be completed in MedHub and reaching out directly to the clerkship leaders and/or Dr. Hersh with your thoughts. Please use these avenues to highlight what went well and what needs to be improved.

Walking Maps

If you need to find your way around the Yale New Haven or Saint Rapheal hospitals of downtown New Haven, walking maps can be found at Yale New Haven Hospital Walking Maps.

Clerkship Locker Clean Out

If you have not already done so, please remove all belongings from your locker and return the lock (if you borrowed one) to the Office of Curriculum (3rd floor Harkness Dorm building) by December 9th. All lockers will be re-assigned to the rising second year class during Transition which takes place December 12th to 16th.

NOTE: If there is a personal lock on the locker it will be cut off.

USMLE Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment Vouchers

We provide all MS3s with a token to take the USMLE Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment as they prepare for taking Step 1 in the ATP. This self-assessment is a practice test designed for students planning to take the USMLE Step 1 and is delivered through the MyNBMESM Examinee Portal.

Last week you were sent a voucher for the USMLE Step 1 Comprehensive Basic Science Subject exam. Check for this email from Susan Larkin in the Office of Curriculum. This voucher can be used for up to a year after its receipt as you prepare to take Step 1.
