Dear Colleagues:
It is with much sadness that we send this message. We are dismayed that hate crimes continue to be a problem in our country. While the senseless murders in Atlanta have not yet been ruled a hate crime by law enforcement, six of the eight victims were of Asian descent.
According to a recent report from Stop AAPI Hate, between March 19, 2020 to February 28, 2021, there were 3,795 hate incidents against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Even worse, these data may not accurately reflect the true extent of the problem since not all incidents are reported.
We must commit to do what we can to reverse this trend. Please do not hesitate to reach out while we explore effective and safe ways to come together to support each other and take further action to address these hateful acts.
