Polimanti to Participate in UVA's Biomedical Data Science Innovation Lab

August 26, 2020

Renato Polimanti, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, will participate in the 2020-2021 Biomedical Data Science Innovation Lab at the Brain Institute of the University of Virginia.

Polimanti was nominated by Drs. John Krystal and Brian Smith, co-directors of the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation supported by the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award Program.

The Innovation Lab is an intensive workshop, both virtual and in-person, to foster development of early-career biomedical investigator and quantitative investigator (i.e. data scientists, computer scientists, biostatisticians) teams. The goal is to tackle data science challenges that arise from the use of large-scale neuroscience-related data.

Polimanti’s scientific background in evolutionary biology and molecular epidemiology will provide a different point of view to investigate the human brain, which will be highly complementary with the expertise of the other biomedical and quantitative investigators that will attend the workshop.

Additionally, due to his involvement in large collaborative projects (e.g., the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium and the Million Veteran Program), Polimanti will bring his experience in working in groups including investigators with different interests and goals.

Approximately 30 scientists will participate in the workshop forming teams to develop interdisciplinary projects to solve mathematical challenges in the analytics of multimodal neuroscience data.
