Wilkins, Goldenberg Appointed to New Medical Student Education Leadership Positions

January 27, 2020

The Yale Department of Psychiatry announces new medical student education leadership for the department.

Kirsten Wilkins, MD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, has been named Director of Medical Student Education overseeing all medical student education in the department. Wilkins has served as Psychiatry Clerkship Director since 2011.

Matthew Goldenberg, MD, MSc, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, has been named Psychiatry Clerkship Director. He has served as Co-Clerkship Director with Wilkins and before that was Associate Clerkship Director.

The department seeks to fill two medical student education leadership positions:

Associate Clerkship Director: This position is open to ladder-track faculty members on the clinician-educator track. The Associate Clerkship Director will assist Dr. Goldenberg and Tamara Savercool in the administration and oversight of the psychiatry clerkship for medical and PA students, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; clinical and didactic teaching; recruitment and development of faculty and resident educators; and student mentoring/support. While no salary support is available for this position, opportunities exist for faculty mentorship, educational scholarship, involvement with the national Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry, and collaboration with Yale faculty educators outside the Department of Psychiatry. The Associate Clerkship Director serves on the Department's Medical Student Education Committee and attends YSM's monthly Clerkship Directors' Meeting.

Director of Electives: This position is open to ladder-track faculty members on the clinician-educator track. The Director of Electives will work closely with Tamara Savercool in the administration and oversight of psychiatry electives for Yale and visiting medical students, including review of new elective applications; approval of elective students; review of elective feedback from students to ensure quality educational experiences; recruitment and development of faculty and resident educators; and student mentoring/support. While no salary support is available for this position, opportunities exist for faculty mentorship, educational scholarship, involvement with the national Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry, and collaboration with Yale faculty educators outside the Department of Psychiatry. The Director of Electives serves on the Department's Medical Student Education Committee and attends YSM's monthly Elective Directors' Meeting.

Faculty interested in either opportunity are asked to email a letter of interest to Wilkins at kirsten.wilkins@yale.edu by February 24. Women and URM faculty are especially encouraged to apply.
