May 14, 2019

Catherine Chiles, MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, has been elected Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Associates of Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library at Yale.

Chiles is the first woman to serve as Chair of the Board of Trustees since the inception of the Medical Library Associates in 1948.

The Associates serve as stewards of the medical library's mission to conserve and promote its current and future holdings, and to extend the usefulness of these collections to Yale and the global community.

The library, which connects to Sterling Hall of Medicine, serves the biomedical and health care information needs of the Yale New Haven Health System and university, as well as providing service to area physicians and medical libraries.

According to the library's website, the collections cover clinical medicine and its specialties, the pre-clinical sciences, public health, nursing, and related fields. They also include the Historical Library's distinguished holdings. The library now contains more than 416,000 volumes.
