Congratulations to the following Internal Medicine faculty for these recent awards and publications:

• Michael DiGiovanna, MD, associate professor of medicine (medical oncology) is the Yale Primary Investigator and co-author of the paper entitled, “Trastuzumab Emtansine for Residual Invasive HER2-Positive Breast Cancer”, or the KATHERINE trial, which was recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine and presented at the 2018 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.
• Jeanette Tetrault, MD, FACP, associate professor of medicine (general internal medicine), has received the W. Anderson Spickard, Jr. Excellence in Mentorship Award. This award, from the Association for Medical Education and Research on Substance use and Addiction (AMERSA), is given to one awardee annually and recognizes an individual who provides outstanding research and career mentorship to trainees and junior faculty.
• Richard Kibbey, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine (endocrinology) will be inducted into The American Society of Clinical Investigation in Spring 2019.
• The following Internal Medicine faculty were chosen to participate in The Office of Cooperative Research’s Pitchfest: Jeffrey Bender, MD, Robert I. Levy Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) and professor of immunobiology; Choukri Ben Mamoun, PhD, associate professor of medicine (infectious diseases) and of microbial pathogenesis; Clemens Bergwitz, MD, associate professor of medicine (endocrinology); Naftali Kaminski, MD, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary), section chief (pulmonary, critical care & sleep medicine); Patty Lee, MD, professor of medicine (pulmonary); Wajahat Mehal, PhD, MD, professor of medicine (digestive diseases); Stefan Somlo, MD, C.N.H. Long Professor of Medicine (Nephrology) and Professor of Genetics; section chief (nephrology).
• Robert Safirstein, MD, published “Regulated Necrosis and Failed Repair in Cisplatin-Induced Chronic Kidney Disease” in the December 2018 issue of Kidney International.
• Jennifer Miller, PhD, assistant professor of medicine (general medicine) was named to the World Economic Forum’s Global Precision Medicine Council due to her work in access to medicines and bioethics.
