September 26, 2018

Al Powers, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, and Jai Shah, MD, a 2013 graduate of the Yale Public Psychiatry Fellowship, will be honored in October with Future Leaders Awards at the 11th International Conference on Early Intervention in Mental Health in Boston.

The Future Leaders Awards were created to encourage early career researchers and clinicians to continue to work in the field of early intervention. They recognize and commend researchers for early career success in the field of early intervention in mental health.

Powers is a graduate of the Yale Psychiatry Residency Program. He joined the faculty in July 2018. His work focuses on applying the computational tools he has developed toward early detection and novel treatment development in psychosis. As Medical Director of the Yale PRIME Psychosis Prodrome Research Clinic, his clinical work is focused on the treatment of patients experiencing attenuated psychotic symptoms.

Shah is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at McGill University and Associate Director of the Program for Prevention and Early Intervention in Psychosis in Montreal, Canada. His research and clinical work spans across high-risk states and first episode psychosis, with projects ranging from neurobiology to clinical stating to the service-related implications of early intervention paradigms.

The conference will be held Oct. 7-10 in Boston and will draw scientists and clinicians from around the world who will speak on the full range of early interventions in mental health.
