May 10, 2018

Theddeus Iheanacho, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, has been selected to participate in the 2018-19 Yale School of Medicine Medical Education Fellowship (MEF).

The goal of the fellowship is to develop clinician educators who will provide educational leadership across the departments and at the medical school. In the interactive course, participants read educational literature, discuss principles of learning, and design an educational project.

The 2018-19 fellowship year will begin in September and will conclude with Medical Education Day in May 2019, when fellows will present projects. This year’s Medical Education Day is May 16 at The Anlyan Center (TAC).

Iheanacho has taught in the department for five years. He is Medical Director of the Errera Community Care Center (ECCC), a program of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System.

Located in West Haven, ECCC serves veterans who struggle with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders and homelessness and/or aging. Services include day and crisis intervention programs, vocational programs, housing programs, homeless outreach and advocacy, case management programs, and wellness activities.

In 2017, Iheanacho was awarded the Irma Bland Certificate of Excellence in Teaching Residents. The award recognizes American Psychiatric Association members who have made outstanding and sustaining contributions to resident education in psychiatry.
