Licinio named dean of College of Medicine at Upstate Medical University

Julio Licinio, MD, PhD, a former fellow and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale, has been named senior vice president and dean of the College of Medicine at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y.

According to a university press release, Licinio will start work as dean of the medical school and senior vice president of Upstate on July 1. He will oversee the academic activities of the basic and clinical science departments, including education and research in the College of Medicine

Licinio’s career in academic medicine spans three decades. He was a fellow and faculty member at Yale from 1990-1993, and has held positions at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, UCLA, the University of Miami, National Australian University, and the NIH Clinical Center and National Institute of Mental Health in Maryland.

His current appointment is at the South Australian Health and Research Institute in Adelaide, Australia, where he is deputy director of translation strategy and process for the Head, Mind and Brain Theme.
