The Yale School of Medicine Behavioral Medicine Internship Placement Program has been chosen to receive the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s (SBM) Excellence in Behavioral Medicine Training Program Award.
The national award will be presented during SBM’s 2017 Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions on March 30 in San Diego.
The award honors a training program that provides behavioral medicine training. The training program can be research- and/or clinically-focused, and can occur in any discipline.
Yale’s Behavioral Medicine placement exists within the Psychological Medicine service of Yale New Haven Hospital. It was developed by Dwain Fehon, PsyD, Chief Psychologist, Psychiatrist Services, Yale New Haven Hospital, in 2008 with the support of William Sledge, MD, George D. and Esther S. Gross Professor of Psychiatry. Fehon has been the program’s director and primary advisor to psychology fellows.
The Behavioral Medicine service is a psychological consultation and intervention program integrated within specialized medical services of Yale New Haven Hospital and the Yale Cancer Center/Smilow Cancer Hospital.
Psychology fellows train within multidisciplinary teams of physicians, surgeons, nurses, and social workers and gain valuable experience in the provision of behavioral health consultation, evidence-based assessment, and behavioral health intervention with a broad range of medically ill patients.
