We congratulate Dr. Yemisi Damisah, M.D., a PGY6 resident from the Yale Department of Neurosurgery for being selected as the winner of the Academy Award from the American Academy of Neurological Surgery. This highly competitive and prestigious award is given to the neurosurgery resident or young neurosurgeon whose original research offers the best insight into problems confronting neuroscience. Under sponsorship of a Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) grant, Dr. Damisah is working under the mentorship of Dr. Jaime Grutzendler, MD, using advanced optical imaging techniques to investigate apoptotic cell death and corpse removal in the mammalian brain. Dr. Damisah presented this award-winning research at the 2016 meeting of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
