Orchard & Xu Honored With 2023 Kavli Postdoctoral Fellowship

April 17, 2023

The Kavli Institute for Neuroscience is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 Kavli Postdoctoral Fellowship.

The Kavli Postdoctoral Fellowships enable outstanding postdoctoral associates the opportunity to pursue new and innovative research at the interface of neuroscience and other disciplines under the joint supervision of mentors with different areas of expertise.

This year’s recipients are:

Winnie Orchard

Mentors: Linda Mayes, Kieran O’Donnell

Project Title: “Molecular Mechanisms of Neural and Cognitive Plasticity in Motherhood”

My research focuses on the neural and cognitive changes associated with the transition to parenthood. The Kavli Postdoctoral Fellowship will support me to further investigate the relationships between brain function, cognition, and fluctuating hormonal concentrations, to better characterize the time course and mechanisms of neurocognitive change in the peripartum period.

Winnie Orchard, PhD

Xize Xu

Mentors: Monika Jadi, Anirvan Nandy

Project Title: “The Impact of Spatial Context on Inter-laminar Interactions in Visual Cortex”

By utilizing high-density electrophysiological data, our research endeavors to develop both statistical and mechanistic models to gain insights into how the spatial organization of objects influences inter-laminar interactions in the visual cortex. By doing so, we seek to uncover how perceptual impairment under visual crowding is mediated by visual context integration.
