Kavli Foundation

The Kavli Foundation is dedicated to advancing science for the benefit of humanity, promoting public understanding of scientific research, and supporting scientists and their work. The Foundation's mission is implemented through an international program of research institutes, professorships, and symposia in the fields of astrophysics, nanoscience, neuroscience, and theoretical physics, as well as prizes in the fields of astrophysics, nanoscience, and neuroscience.

The Kavli Institute for Neuroscience at Yale University is one of seven Kavli neuroscience institutes worldwide dedicated to fundamental research about the brain. The others are:

Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind at the University of California, San Diego
Kavli Institute for Brain Science at Columbia University
Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology
Kavli Neuroscience Discovery Institute at Johns Hopkins University
Kavli Neural Systems Institute at The Rockefeller University
Kavli Institute for Fundamental Neuroscience at University of California, San Francisco

The BRAIN Initiative

Launched by President Obama in 2013, the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies Initiative (BRAIN Initiative) is a broad, collaborative research initiative to advance the science and technologies needed to unlock the mysteries of the human brain. It's goal is to accelerate the development and application of new technologies that will enable researchers to produce dynamic pictures of the brain that show how individual brain cells and complex neural circuits interact at the speed of thought. The Kavli Foundation and its partners were instrumental in the development of the BRAIN Initiative and has committed more than $40 million to support it. Learn more
