Nishant Kumar Mishra

Assistant Professor of Neurology

Dr. Mishra is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Division of Stroke and Vascular Neurology at Yale University. He has a long-standing interest in clinical neurosciences. He finished his medical school in 2003 and internship in 2005. He served in Neurology at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai where he trained in the mentorship of Praful M Dalal, MD, and Shirish M Hastak, MD, DM. He received Swiss Government's ESKAS Fellowship to train at the University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV) from 2006 - 2008. At CHUV, he managed patients in stroke and behavioral neurology clinics and conducted clinical research about the behavioral manifestations of acute stroke (e.g., blind sight & neglect syndromes). He then went to the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and earned a PhD in Medicine and Therapeutics (2012) in the mentorship of Kennedy R. Lees, MD. For his PhD, he studied the use of i.v. alteplase in acute ischemic stroke patients who were recommended for exclusion as per the European Drug Authority, EMEA. Dr. Mishra’s doctoral work made significant contributions to the field, informing whether the exclusion criteria proposed by the drug authorities for the treatment of ischemic stroke patients were meaningful and should be followed. During his stay at Glasgow, he collaborated extensively with SITS-ISTR registry, VISTA collaborators, and multiple other groups. From 2012 to 2014, he trained at Stanford Stroke Center in the mentorship of Greg Albers, MD, and Maarten Lansberg, MD. At Stanford, he studied the brain imaging profiles of ischemic stroke patients which are associated with improved outcomes after receiving reperfusion stroke therapy in extended time window. Subsequently, and after a year at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), he began his U.S. clinical training. For his residency and fellowship trainings, he was at Tulane University, New Orleans (2016 - 2018), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York (2018 - 2020), and University of California, Los Angeles (ACGME fellow & StrokeNet Fellow, 2020 - 2021). He was elected as a Fellow of European Stroke Organization (FESO) in 2012. He serves on the Editorial Board of Neurology, PLOS One and Frontiers in Neurology (Stroke), and has been a reviewer for journals like Neurology and Stroke since more than a decade. Dr. Mishra's professional goals are to make a positive impact in the lives of the stroke patients, not only locally by offering the best care to his patients, but also globally by advancing the field through clinical research and novel discoveries.

Active research interests:

1. Biomarker study in stroke
