João Paulo da Costa Gonçalves, MD

João has worked on an investigation of clinical, immunological, genetic, and epigenetic profiles in a Brazilian cohort of patients with cavernous malformations. He also spent a considerable amount of time contributing to a study of immunologic and genetic susceptibility profiles associated with emerging phenotypes of neurological involvement in patients infected with Zika and Chikungunya viruses. He has had several teaching assistant roles in medical school and served as a volunteer in a longitudinal follow-up program for patients with hypertension. He enjoys hiking, running outdoors, choir and a cappella vocal group, bossa nova and musical theater, and learning new languages and their accents.
