Basil has investigated the difference in cognitive function between Parkinson's disease patients with cardiac disease and those without. He has also worked on the creation of a database of cervical artery dissection patients enrolled under the CADISP consortium to investigate differences in risk factors between people with isolated versus recurrent cervical artery dissection. Before medical school, he managed a tutoring program for first graders through AmeriCorps. He also served as the Muslim Medical Association president and had numerous other volunteer roles in and before medical school. He enjoys science fiction, movies and shows, the guitar, watching the NBA, and keeping up with current events.
