Clinical Neuroscience Grand Rounds - Ron Riesenburger, MD
"Does Amyloid Deposition Cause Ligamentum Flavum Thickening and Lumbar Stenosis?"
Password: 956762
Meeting ID: 942 1952 3099
Program Objective(s):
- Wild-type Transthyretun amyloid (ATTRwt) is the specific amyloid associated with ligamentum flavum thickening
- The amyloid triad consists of spinal stenosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cardiac amyloidosis
- Literature shows ligamentum flavum is thicker in patients with amyloid vs. no amyloid deposition
- Literature shows a dose-dependent relationship between amyloid load and ligamentum flavum thickness. In other words, the more amyloid, the thicker the ligamentum flavum
- Much more research is required. If causation between amyloid deposition and ligamentum flavum thickening is "proven," then medicinal treatment of spinal stenosis may become a possible treatment
