Movement Disorders

The Yale Movement Disorders Division’s comprehensive program delivers world-class care across the continuum of all movement disorders with seamless integration of research programs and education of our trainees. The team delivers exceptional, holistic, patient-centered care for the full range of movement disorders (including Parkinson disease and atypical parkinsonian disorders, tremor, dystonia, chorea, Huntington disease, ataxia, Wilson disease, tics, myoclonus, gait disorders, restless leg syndrome, and autoimmune and genetic movement disorders), serving patients in New Haven (in the outpatient and inpatient setting), Guilford, Greenwich, Stamford, and at the West Haven VA. The Comprehensive Care Center for Parkinson Disease expands clinical, research, and educational programs to their highest levels with state-of-the-art, individualized care for every patient in a multidisciplinary model.

With a focus on patient and community education and engagement, we develop longitudinal wellness programs to empower patients and optimize care. Our specialists provide comprehensive treatment options, from complementary, supportive care to advanced therapeutics throughout the course of disease. Our deep brain stimulation program, in close collaboration with our functional neurosurgeons and neuropsychologists, offers advanced therapies for patients with refractory symptoms of Parkinson disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. Our botulinum toxin program also offers injections for a variety of conditions and the Yale Center for Restless Legs Syndrome, one of ten RLS Foundation Quality Care Centers in the United States, serves patients with severe, refractory RLS.

Close collaboration with experts in the fields of neurosurgery, behavioral neurology, neuropsychology, sleep medicine, psychiatry, autonomics, radiology, neurogenetics, neuro-ophthalmology, neurorehabilitation specialists, social work, nursing, and pharmacy enable us to provide compassionate care and cutting-edge research for patients. With a strong foundation in basic science, translational, and clinical research, we are distinctly committed to translation of basic science models into the clinical space. All our programs offer unique research opportunities for participants with and without movement disorders. Given that the education of students, trainees, and subspecialty fellows is paramount to ensuring the future care of patients with movement disorders, several faculty are nationally recognized educators. Our two-year Movement Disorders Fellowship further seeks to create tailored experiences that simultaneously enhance the care of patients.
