The Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the following appointments:
Vincent J. Mase Jr., MD, FACS, has been appointed program director of the Thoracic Surgery fellowship, effective immediately. Mase also serves as program director of Yale’s Integrated Cardiothoracic Surgery (I-6) residency program and holds a national leadership role with the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association (TSDA).
In his expanded role, Mase will provide educational leadership across both of Yale’s cardiothoracic surgery training pathways, supporting a coordinated approach to surgical education, mentorship, and trainee development. Mase succeeds Rita Milewski, MD, who previously led the fellowship.
Britt H. Tonnessen, MD, FACS, has been appointed program director of the Yale Vascular Surgery fellowship, effective Sept. 1, 2026. Jonathan Cardella, MD, FRCS, the fellowship’s current program director, will continue his role as program director of the vascular surgery residency. Tonnessen serves as the residency's associate program director.
