Abdelnour Honored with Psychiatry Clerkship Faculty Teaching Award

2 Minute Read

Elie Abdelnour, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry, was awarded the Psychiatry Clerkship Faculty Teaching Award at the annual Biopsychosocial Approach to Health (Psychiatry/Primary Care) Clerkship Awards Banquet at Yale West Campus on June 9.

The award is presented to a psychiatry faculty member who serves as an excellent teacher and role model for medical students. The Psychiatry Medical Student Education Committee asks medical and physician assistant (PA) students to nominate faculty for the award.

Sample comments from student nominations included:

  • Dr. Abdelnour made a great effort to keep track of my goals by initiating weekly meetings, did a lot of great teaching on relevant topics, allowed me to see a variety of presentations, and allowed me a great deal of self-efficacy in seeing patients and making plans!
  • I’d like to give a specific shout out to Dr. Abdelnour for being incredibly patient, kind, and supportive of me. I could tell he was truly interested in me as a person, no matter what specialty I was interested in pursuing. He frequently took time to go over a topic we had seen that day or just one I was interested in. His teaching style is relaxed and so approachable. I never felt like there was a question that I couldn't ask. Beyond psych material, he also was a good sounding board for career questions, questions about residency, and general life and philosophical questions. He is such a genuinely good human, and it comes across in his interactions with patients, but also the way he speaks about patients to other team members. It always comes from a place of compassion and curiosity. He was such a great attending to have for my first inpatient psych experience.

Abdelnour is an inpatient attending physician and medical director of the Celentano 1 psychiatric unit at Yale New Haven Hospital St Raphael’s Campus.
