Alumni Day highlights data-driven leadership
More than 100 Yale School of Public Health alumni turned out for the first in-person Alumni Day in five years on Oct. 6, attending an event-filled day at the New Haven Lawn Club that included lively discussions about the importance of data-driven leadership in public health, a poster contest, and the distribution of the annual alumni awards.
Honoring the Legacy of Yan Fuqing, MD, Yale School of Medicine Class of 1909
On October 25, Yale School of Medicine honored Dr. Yan Fuqing, the first Asian to graduate YSM, in the Class of 1909. Donated by members of his family, and Xiangya Hospital, which Dr. Yan helped to build, the bust serves as a testament to his tireless work as a medical practitioner, public health advocate, and civil servant.
YSPH alums keep plight of African students in Ukraine in spotlight
Three recent Yale School of Public Health graduates created a film to shine a light on the plight of African college students who encountered racism when they fled Ukraine at the outbreak of the Russian war. Their documentary was accepted to be shown ahead of the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting in Atlanta in November.

YAA Public Service Awards honor three Yalies for their commitment to the New Haven community and helping others
YSPH alumnus Ryan Sutherland, ’20 MPH, ’26 MD, was one of three Yale alums to receive the Yale Alumni Association's 2023 Public Service Award. Bhutan’s health minister seeks future collaborations with Yale
Her Excellency Dechen Wangmo, MPH ’07, minister of health for Bhutan and a Yale School of Public Health alumna, visited Yale last week as an invited guest of the Yale Institute for Global Health. She spoke about Bhutan’s public health system, pandemic response, and engagement with Yale during a special lecture on Sept. 21.
