Dike, Kapoor New Co-Directors at Law and Psychiatry Division at Yale

August 04, 2021

Charles Dike, MD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, has been appointed Co-Director of the Law and Psychiatry Division at Yale.

Reena Kapoor, MD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, has been appointed Co-Director of the division’s Forensic Fellowship Program.

They will both serve as co-directors with Howard Zonana, MD, Professor of Psychiatry, who created the Law and Psychiatry Division more than four decades ago.

Drs. Dike and Kapoor have for several years served as Associate Directors of the Forensic Fellowship Program, so they have experience working in the division, which provides education, forensic evaluations, clinical services, consultation, and research related to forensic psychiatry and psychology.

The division consists of a Clinical Unit, which is the New Haven Jail Diversion program, and a Forensic Evaluation Unit which consists of the New Haven Office of Court Evaluation and the Forensic Evaluation and Consultation Center. There is a Research Division and a Substance Abuse Unit that sees inmates from the Connecticut Department of Corrections upon their release.

An Education Unit oversees the Fellowship Program, which began in 1979 and offers training for five fellows, making it one of the largest forensic training programs in the country.

The program trains psychiatrists to develop expertise in the intersection of psychiatry, law, ethics, and public policy. It offers a broad-based training experience with strength in the areas of criminal law, public sector forensic psychiatry, and research and scholarship.
