- 00:00And thank you too D.
- 00:02Nancy Brown, for the opportunity
- 00:05to introduce this knew,
- 00:06yelled network for vaccine
- 00:08initiatives at this workshop.
- 00:10So here I provide my disclosures reflecting
- 00:13work I've done with both Mircan Moderna.
- 00:17So this new initiative,
- 00:19this vaccine network is a new
- 00:21endeavour for us here at Yale.
- 00:23Began just last year with the
- 00:25kickoff meeting in September that
- 00:27was attended by about 20 people.
- 00:29The network is Co led by myself and doctors
- 00:32Carlos Oliveira in Marietta Vazquez,
- 00:34both of whom you'll be hearing from
- 00:36a little bit later in the workshop,
- 00:39were supported by the Yale Institute
- 00:41for Global Health that is directed by
- 00:43Doctor Saad Omer who is also speaking
- 00:46today and Doctor Jeremy Schwartz.
- 00:48Who is the lead for faculty networks at YIGH?
- 00:52So as I just mentioned why Igh
- 00:55supports several faculty networks,
- 00:56you can see them here.
- 00:58Some are more established than others.
- 01:00The ones that are already well established
- 01:03include those that focus on malaria,
- 01:05non communicable diseases and work in Uganda,
- 01:08in others,
- 01:09including hours focused on vaccines
- 01:10is one that's more in development.
- 01:13But the idea behind all of these
- 01:15networks is to bring together diverse
- 01:17faculty and staff from across
- 01:20the University who are working.
- 01:22In a common area to identify
- 01:25synergies and form partnerships so
- 01:27that collectively we can really do
- 01:30the most impactful work possible.
- 01:32Clearly,
- 01:32with everything going on in the world
- 01:35today related to the kovid pandemic,
- 01:38the establishment of a vaccine
- 01:39network is quite timely,
- 01:41but I also think you know most of
- 01:44us probably appreciate the past,
- 01:46the present and the future importance
- 01:49of all vaccines and at the same time
- 01:52we're all acutely aware of the unprecedented.
- 01:55Pressing an urgent need to address any
- 01:57and all issues related to the covid
- 02:00vaccines and vaccination programs you know,
- 02:02I think one thing that the kovid
- 02:05pandemic has done has really to shed
- 02:07a tremendous amount of light on the
- 02:10importance of the need for vaccines.
- 02:12More broadly as an important tool for
- 02:14preventing disease and promoting health,
- 02:16and as such,
- 02:18our network is really going
- 02:20forward going to be focused.
- 02:23You know it's going to be inclusive
- 02:25in its focus on any and all vaccines,
- 02:27including those for covid.
- 02:30So this is just a snapshot of our website
- 02:33and I highlight our mission statement,
- 02:36which is to say that this network is
- 02:38committed to improving population health
- 02:40through the three pillars of academic life,
- 02:44which include research,
- 02:45training and service to promote
- 02:47vaccination across the lifespan.
- 02:48Our goal is to form interdisciplinary
- 02:51partnerships that span all of the
- 02:53stages or phases of translational
- 02:55research for the greatest public
- 02:57health impact around the globe.
- 02:59So our mission.
- 03:00Statement as you can see,
- 03:01is intentionally broad so as
- 03:03to be as inclusive as possible.
- 03:05You know right now I think you know.
- 03:07Again,
- 03:08we're in you network.
- 03:09I think the best way to describe
- 03:11us is to say that we are both
- 03:13open and we are organic
- 03:15and bioorganic. I mean that the networks
- 03:17the purpose of the network is to
- 03:19serve the needs of everybody at the
- 03:21University working on vaccine research,
- 03:23whatever those needs may be.
- 03:25So as we further develop,
- 03:26and Ezra membership grows,
- 03:28we can choose their own course of action.
- 03:30In activities that we deem to be most
- 03:33necessary and suitable to benefit
- 03:35all the members of the network.
- 03:37And by open I mean that we are
- 03:39currently welcoming new members.
- 03:41Suddenly, again,
- 03:41delighted to be here today
- 03:43to to promote this network.
- 03:45Anybody who would like to get
- 03:46involved can visit our website.
- 03:48You can see the links there.
- 03:50You can also you know quick
- 03:52Google search finds us as well.
- 03:54It will be posting updates on our
- 03:56website as we grow and develop.
- 03:58You can also email Jen Lahav at YIGHU,
- 04:01provides support to the network
- 04:02and she can add your name to our
- 04:05email distribution list and we
- 04:07would be delighted to see any and
- 04:09all of you at a future meeting.
- 04:11So with that,
- 04:12thank you everybody for your
- 04:13interest in vaccines and thank
- 04:15you for being here today,
- 04:16and I will turn it back over to Patrick.
