DESCRIPTION:Session Description Poetry\, Friendship\, and Parenting at the
  Edge of Intimacy and Mental Health Elizabeth Metzger\, MFA\, will give a
  thirty minute talk exploring Max Ritvo's poetry confronting mortality\, 
 her anticipatory grief and "becoming" Max in poetry\, poetry and the nonv
 erbal relationship of mother/child\, and poetry's role in parenting throu
 gh her child's regression. The talk will be followed by a reading of Ritv
 o's poems and Metzger's own poems related to him and her son. The objecti
 ves of this session are to consider: The relational power of poetry The u
 se of poetry at the edges of language and experience: illness and dying\;
  friendship and grief\; parenthood and the developing minds of children C
 ontinuing Education This session is approved for Continuing Education Cre
 dit (CEC) by the National Association of Social Workers\, CT and meets th
 e continuing education criteria for Social Work\, Marriage & Family Thera
 pist\, Professional Counselor\, and Licensed Psychologist Licensure renew

 he arts and child/adolescent mental health\, the multidisciplinary Max Ri
 tvo ‘13 and Alan B. Slifka ‘51 Program for the Medical Humanities aims to

 hen the ability of providers to deliver compassionate care. It includes g
 uest speaker and visiting scholar components\, as well as culminating spe
 cial lectures each spring. YCSC Grand Rounds sessions are typically prese
 nted in the Cohen Auditorium at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays from September thro
