The department has a major commitment to our extended community outside the Medical Center and offers both a variety of blood drawing stations and satellite laboratories in greater New Haven as well as reference testing for other hospital laboratories, medical practices, and institutions.

  • Apheresis/Transfusion Service provides clinical apheresis support for both in-patients and out-patients.

  • The Blood Bank provides oversight of the Tissue Banking Program.

  • The Clinical Chemistry laboratory provides routine and state of the art specialized assays for patient care. 

  • The Flow Cytometry Laboratory performs immunophenotyping, functional analysis, DNA ploidy, and other clinical assays.

  • Hematology Laboratory delivers comprehensive, clinical diagnostic care for a range of disorders.

  • The Immunology Laboratory is responsible for laboratory testing in autoimmune disease.

  • The Informatics section of the Department of Laboratory Medicine began as one of the first "Laboratory Instrumentation" sections in the country, originally designing some of the earliest automated clinical laboratory devices and even one of the original Laboratory Robots (named "Clancy" by the staff).
  • The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory is certified in Bacteriology; Mycology; Mycobacteriology; and Parasitology. 

  • The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is responsible for the development and performance of molecular diagnostic tests for nucleic acid targets found in a variety of settings in medicine.
  • Tumor Profiling Laboratory performs high throughput genotyping analyses of tumor DNA.

  • The mission of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System is to fulfill a grateful nations' commitment to its veterans by providing high quality health care that meets the needs of the veteran patients, promoting health through prevention and maintaining excellence in teaching and research.
  • The Clinical Virology Laboratory is a full service virology laboratory
