Aortobifemoral bypass is the preferred method of bilateral inflow revascularization, with axillobifemoral bypass reserved for high-risk patients. Hybrid surgery in the form of femorofemoral bypass and retrograde endovascular aortoiliac intervention is increasingly being used to achieve the same goal. A highly specialized tool called an embolic protection device is currently used to prevent some of the released debris from reaching the brain.

Dr. Mulligan Elected President of OPTN/UNOS
Dr. David Mulligan, Chief of Transplantation, Department of Surgery, has been elected Vice President, President-Elect of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network/United Network for Organ Sharing (OPTN/UNOS) Board of Directors. The OPTN/UNOS manages the nation’s organ transplant network under federal contract.
