The next generation of YSM Web Systems is coming soon

June 04, 2015
by Justin Fansler

The Web Group is excited to announce that we will be launching the much-anticipated updates to the school's websites and profile system on June 25, 2015. This message has information about what to expect and what you can do to prepare.

It is the first in a series of communications you will receive over the next three weeks about launch activities. Feel free to forward this message to faculty and staff who you feel should be informed about your website changes. You can read more about these projects on our website at http://web.yale.edu/support/t3.

Template 3 (T3)

Why are we Redesigning?

As you are aware, we are updating the "look and feel" of the YSM websites. Some of the enhancements include:

  1. Larger, easier to read fonts and wider pages
  2. More white space for a cleaner, less cramped feel
  3. Sites will now display properly on mobile phones and tablets
  4. Better navigation functionality and page layouts

Your Site in Development

We are excited today to show you your beta T3 website in the development environment. Visit this list of all websites to find your beta site in development.

To Prepare for Launch

  • Note the Dates
As of today, we are planning to launch the updated template on June 25; however, there are several important dates leading up to launch. Please review the full launch schedule here.
  • Review Your Site
We need you to review your beta site. If you note any functionality issues, please “Provide Feedback” using the button in the lower right of the pages on your beta site. We will then triage these issues and respond accordingly. Please note – the development version is a reflection of your website from May 14th. Any changes made after that date will not be visible here, but will be ported to your new site when we launch. For more information, click here.
  • Fix Common Issues
We have compiled a list of common issues and how you can fix them in your site before launch. Review that list here. These issues can be fixed now if you are comfortable making edits to your current site in preparation for the new template, or during the “content freeze” week, or even after the new sites launch if that is easier for you.
  • Functionality
Our development team has not yet completed some functionality, but we will continue to work on it and it will be done for launch! Review that list here.

Profile System

Why are we Rebuilding?

The Profile System is being rebuilt from the ground up and will be a tremendous leap forward in functionality, speed, and user-friendliness.

What it means for you

We are moving all of the data from the old system to the new, but when the transition is complete, we will ask you to become familiar with the new system and help your faculty and staff with their questions if any come up. Using the new system will be very similar to using the existing system. We will also be here to support you. Our next session to review the new system is June 23, and you will receive an Outlook invite.

Important Notes

To facilitate moving data from the old system to the new system, we must implement a “Content Freeze” from June 16 – June 24. During this time, the Profile System will be unavailable to make updates or changes to profiles, organization membership lists or news. Save up your changes and make them in the new system, which will help you. For more information, click here.

More Information

We encourage you to read more about these projects and the various launch activities on our website at http://web.yale.edu/support/t3. If you have questions, please email us at ysm.editor@yale.edu. Our team is here to make these transitions as smooth as possible for you and your faculty and staff.
