Vaughn R. Steele, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, has been selected to participate in the Joint National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) Early Career Investigator Showcase (ECIS).
The ECIS Showcase will be held during the NIDA/NIAAA Frontiers in Addiction Research Virtual Mini-Convention on January 8, 2021. Steele, an addiction neuroscientist, will speak for 10 minutes during the virtual gathering and present his recent work on “Machine learning identified therapeutic targets for transcranial magnetic stimulation as a treatment for cocaine use disorder.”
The participant selection process was highly competitive; Steele was among eight people selected across NIDA and NIAAA to speak.
Steele joined Yale’s Department of Psychiatry in the Division of Addiction Sciences in January 2020. His research centers on developing treatments for people who suffer from substance abuse disorders (SUDs). His lab targets dysregulated circuits in SUD with transcranial magnetic stimulation to elicit neuroplastic change. The goal in the research is to identify malleable circuits that, with continued treatment, could lead to positive long-term outcomes treating SUDs.
