Adebowale Adeniran, MD, Professor of Pathology, has been appointed as new Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship Program in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine effective August 1.
Chen Liu, MD, PhD, Chair of Yale Pathology, recently announced the appointment. Dr. Adeniran also serves as Director of Cytopathology, Director of the Cytology Laboratory, and Director of the Anatomic Pathology Elective Program at Yale Pathology.
A graduate of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Dr. Adeniran did his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Cincinnati. This was followed by fellowship training in Surgical Pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and fellowship training in Cytopathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC.
Since joining Yale School of Medicine in 2008, Dr. Adeniran has established himself not only as a superbly trained and key member of our surgical pathology and cytopathology teams, but also as an outstanding educator and academician. He has received the Benjamin Castleman Award from the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology in recognition of his scholarly achievements, and the Averill Liebow teaching excellence award bestowed by the Yale New Haven Hospital housestaff.
Dr. Adeniran’s academic and professional career has focused on all aspects of cytopathology and surgical pathology. His specialized expertise in kidney and thyroid neoplasms has garnered him broad recognition. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and co-authored two books. He has conducted and participated in numerous workshops and lectures nationally and internationally. He is also active on several national committees.
