Gerald Ponath, PhD



Gerald’s scientific focus is on translational research in the field of neurobiology and neuroimmunology. His interest is the investigation of the molecular and cellular basis of neurodevelopmental, neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders by the use of patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells. Most of his work has concentrated on the interaction of glial cells and neurons and the detection of biomarkers and cellular endophenotypes in neurological diseases. Since he joined the laboratory, his scientific focus has extended to applying iPSC technology to multiple sclerosis.
