Burg is a professor at the Yale School of Medicine and clinical psychologist who specializes in the use of behavioral interventions to reduce cardiovascular disease risk.
The award is presented annually to an individual whose work exemplifies psychological science towards health improvement, while simultaneously motivating other scientists and providing role models. The award will be presented to Burg during APA’s annual meeting in Minneapolis, MN, held August 4-6.
Burg’s research focuses on the behavioral and physiological implications of stress and emotional factors such as anger and depression for patients with heart failure, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), and atrial fibrillation. His recent work examined a broad range of topics related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including the risk of hypertension or high blood pressure and stroke among young adults with PTSD and an editorial in the journal JACC: Heart Failure on the importance of depression for better patient-centered and disease outcomes for patients with heart failure.
