Biography

Dr. Cesia Gallegos, MD MHS, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine specializing in Cardiovascular Medicine, specifically in the field of infiltrative cardiomyopathies. Her clinical and research endeavors revolve around cardiac amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, and the intersection of advanced cardiac imaging techniques in diagnosing and managing these conditions.

Dr. Gallegos graduated Summa Cum Laude from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, where she earned her medical degree. She then completed residency and chief residency at the University of Miami-Miller School of Medicine. Her academic pursuits brought her to Yale, where she completed general and advanced cardiology fellowships with specialization in advanced cardiac imaging and infiltrative cardiomyopathies while serving as a chief fellow. During her fellowship training, she was awarded a Master in Health Science degree from the Yale School of Medicine. Her thesis focused on regional myocardial blood flow quantification with Rb-82 PET tracer and its relationship with angiographic stenoses. Her work resulted in several national and international presentations and awards. She was selected as “One to Watch” by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, awarded to the top 30 early career professionals in this area. She is also part of the Leadership Development Program from the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr. Gallegos is now faculty in the Advanced Imaging group and Cardiomyopathy Program at Yale New Haven Hospital. Outside of her clinical and research interests, Dr. Gallegos has had a life-long passion for medical education and teaching and was selected to the Department of Medicine Advancement of Clinician-Educator Scholarship (ACES) Faculty Development Program. In addition to her clinical roles, Dr. Gallegos has been appointed as an Associate Program Director for the General Cardiology Fellowship.
