February 22, 2023

Derrick M. Gordon, PhD, associate professor of psychiatry and director of the Program on Male Development in the Division of Prevention and Community Research, is the National Partnership for Community Leadership’s (NPCL) 2023 Research and Scholarship Award recipient.

The award, in its 25th year, is given annually to an individual whose research and scholarship have contributed to the advancement of responsible fatherhood and family strengthening. It will be presented at the Spirit of Hall of Fatherhood Hall of Fame Luncheon on June 7 at the Pro-Football Hall of Fame Village in Canton, Ohio.

Presentation of the award will occur at the International Fatherhood Conference, the longest-running conference in the responsible fatherhood field. This year's conference theme is "Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future."

NPCL is a global organization working to end the injustice of child poverty by building capacities in local communities to help people realize better futures for themselves and their children. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Gordon has served as an investigator on several projects and studies focused on those factors that either support or undermine men transitioning from prison back to the community; the engagement of low-income, non-custodial fathers; the identification and service of adolescent fathers committed to child protection services; men’s reproductive health; and men mandated to batterer intervention groups in the community. His work with men has and continues to focus on increasing the health of men and their positive involvement in family and community life.
