The 3rd Critical Care and Emergency Neuroscience CME Course was held on May 24, 2018 at Yale West Campus. A collaboration between the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, it attracted 180+ registered participants from across the state (and tri-state region). This year’s theme was Resuscitation of Severe and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
Course highlights included:
- The Keynote entitled, “Multimodality monitoring in TBI” by Ramon R. Diaz-Arrastia, Professor of Neurology and Director of Traumatic Brain Injury Clinical Research Center, University of Pennsylvania;
- “Minimally invasive hematoma evacuation” by Dr. Christopher Kellner, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, Mount Sinai Hospital, NY; and
- “Neurosurgical decompression in TBI” by our very own Dr. Patrick Tomak.
Participants were particularly moved (many to tears) by a discussion between Dr. David Hwang, Assistant Professor of Neurology, and one of Dr. Tomak’s TBI patients (and their family). What a remarkable conversation and outcome! We are so grateful to the patient and his family for sharing their experience and road to recovery.
