Stephanie Yarnell-Mac Grory, MD, PhD, a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, was selected as one of five school-wide Center of Entrepreneurial Initiatives (CEI) Fellows at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.
Over the course of a year-long fellowship Yarnell-Mac Grory will work closely with CEI faculty and administrators to create an inclusive and energized environment for entrepreneurial action at Duke; be a leader and advocate for integration of entrepreneurial action across clubs, including educating peers about entrepreneurial opportunities across Fuqua and Duke; contribute to designing and launching new programming and initiatives; engage with prospective students interested in learning more about entrepreneurship and innovation; and work on strategy projects that are meaningful to the Center and which influence entrepreneurship education and opportunities more broadly.
Yarnell-Mac Grory is particularly interested in entrepreneurship focused on health care innovation and startups.
“As one of the fastest growing industries, the need for medical expertise in these novel projects is critical,” she said.
“Yale helped prepare me for this role. While at Yale, I was given numerous leadership opportunities, as well as freedom to explore interests and ideas, engage in creative thought, and design and launch new projects. It is my goal to continue to grow in these areas - and maybe be involved in a startup or two,” Yarnell-Mac Grory said.
Yarnell-Mac Grory graduated at the top of her medical school class from the MD/PhD program at the University of Florida and completed her Adult and Adolescent Psychiatry residency at Yale. During residency she was a member of the neuroscience research track where she concentrated on addictions-related research, winning multiple awards including the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Research Colloquium for Junior Investigator’s Award and the distinguished Thomas P. Detre Award. She served as Chief Resident with clinical placement on the Emergency Psychiatry service at the VA Hospital. After residency, she joined Yale’s Law and Psychiatry Fellowship and, later, Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship. Since that time, she has remained on faculty at Yale within the Department of Psychiatry. She is currently completing the Global Executive MBA Program at Duke.
