Goldenberg, Mitchell Receive 2021 ADMSEP MedEdPORTAL Award

July 01, 2021

Thomas Mitchell, MD, Fourth-Year Resident in the Department of Psychiatry, and Matthew Goldenberg, MD, MSc, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Co-Director of the Medical Student Clerkship in Psychiatry, recently received the 2021 Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP) MedEdPortal Publication Award.

Mitchell and Goldberg were presented with the award for their publication, "When Doctor Means Teacher: An Interactive Workshop on Patient-Centered Education," at the ADMSEP Annual Meeting in June. The purpose of the award is to recognize dissemination of educational scholarship or research by ADMSEP members, according to the ADMSEP website.

Mitchell and Goldenberg developed the workshop to help medical students provide education to patients regarding their medications and diagnoses. It has been implemented with Yale medical students in the past two years and has been received well by both students and faculty.

Mitchell was a middle school teacher in Houston, Texas prior to attending medical school and is passionate about providing high-quality education to both patients and students. In his final year of residency he will be serving as a Program-Wide Chief Resident and the Chief Resident for Quality Improvement at Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. He wanted to thank Goldenberg for the mentorship and support throughout the process of developing and implementing this workshop with students.
